Eliminating fines and fees

Nationwide, roughly 30-40 percent of tenants are at risk of eviction. That’s 30-40 million people. If anything like this number of households is displaced, infection rates will soar. We are working with a coalition of housing advocates to prevent mass eviction in the wake of the pandemic.

Supporting parents

The firm, along with the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) and Garden State Equality, submitted comments supporting proposed amendments to the the Supreme Court of New Jersey;s rules that eliminated the requirement that people who obtain court-ordered name changes publish their former and new names in a newspaper.

Criminal nj juvenile justice

As a founding member of Youth Justice New Jersey, the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest has advanced a number of initiatives to improve New Jersey’s juvenile justice system. Most recently, we worked with the Criminal and Youth Justice Clinic at Rutgers Law School, ACLU-NJ, New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, and Juvenile Law Center to draft and advocate for a bill that significantly reforms juvenile sentencing and parole.
