Civil national protests

When protests against police brutality and institutionalized racism reignited in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, many participants were wrongfully arrested for disorderly conduct. Through extensive negotiations with city officials, a team of Lowenstein lawyers proved that one such arrestee did not exhibit any disorderly behavior, and all charges against him were dropped.

Kate is a transgender woman. In 2016, Kate was arrested by the East Orange Police Department on charges that were ultimately dismissed. Throughout her detention, Kate repeatedly identified herself as legally female and requested that she be housed with female inmates. At each step in her detention, however, police and corrections officers ignored Kate’s female gender identity and legal status and rejected her housing requests.
